PMKSY Boosts Food Processing Sector with Over 1600 Projects; 34 Lakh Farmers Benefited

New Delhi: The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has made significant strides under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), completing 1,133 projects out of 1,601 sanctioned as of June 30, 2025.

These projects have collectively benefitted over 34.15 lakh farmers across India, marking a major milestone in boosting the nation’s food processing ecosystem.

Launched as a Central Sector Umbrella Scheme, PMKSY is aimed at the holistic development of India’s food processing sector. The scheme provides financial assistance in the form of grant-in-aid to eligible entrepreneurs, companies, and organizations for setting up food processing and preservation infrastructure.

PMKSY: Key Objectives

Key objectives include enhancing farm-to-retail supply chains, reducing post-harvest losses, increasing value addition, creating jobs, and driving exports of processed food products.

The completed projects under various PMKSY components have contributed to improved preservation and efficient transportation of both raw and finished agricultural products. These outcomes have helped reduce wastage and ensure better returns for farmers.

To ensure effective implementation, MoFPI has put in place a robust monitoring mechanism involving Project Management Agencies (PMAs) and regular physical site inspections.

The ministry also coordinates with State and Union Territory governments to address implementation challenges and accelerate project execution.

The data was shared in a written reply by Ravneet Singh, Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, during the ongoing session of the Lok Sabha.
